2011 RMB – B.e.e.s.

Intro

Rand Merchant Bank has commissioned Such Initiative to create a site specific public artwork at Merchant Place in Sandton for World Environment Day on the 5th June. A group of Such initiatives have been working this week collecting used coffee cups mostly from the Daily Buzz to create a swarm of bees in the atrium at 03 Merchant Place.

The work speaks to the four elements relating to World Environment Day: Water, Waste, Travel and Energy and aims to bring awareness to urgent need for recycling and separation at source.

In addition to discourses around BEE, the individual corporate worker also becomes aware of his/her own role in the collective. Thus the swarm is a reminder of our collective identity and need to collaborate, co-operate, and come together to effectively work together.
